Workload Estimate

Overview
For this assignment you will use Adobe Premiere Pro to produce a music video in which the music is presented as “diegetic music”.
This is an example of diegetic music. We can tell the music is coming from the radio that we see fall into the water because of how its sound changes. (Incidentally, all of the visual elements of this animation were designed in Illustrator. They were animated in Premiere Pro using keyframe automation techniques.
“Diegetic music or source music is music in a drama (e.g., film or video game) that is part of the fictional setting and so, presumably, is heard by the characters.[1] The term refers to diegesis, a style of storytelling.”

Workload Estimate
You are expected to spend at least 16 hours on this project. This estimate includes time to conceptualize your project, collect and produce audio and video content, research techniques, edit audio and video assets, apply audio and video effects to your composition, export your video, write a reflection on your creative production process and upload your video and writing. This is a complex project requiring a combination of all of the design and technical skills that you have developed over the course of the this class. Start working on this as soon as possible and break the work up over multiple days.
Learning Objectives

Discuss the psychological effects that result from the sensory fusion of visual and auditory media.

Instructions
You must have at least five (5) distinctly sonically unique presentations of the music that contextualize the sound source in your fictional environment.You could have a consistent sound source, such as a radio, that travels through the world and is heard in dramatically different environments and situations that shape its sonic character. (I imagine a radio falling from a helicopter, tumbling down a mountain, plunging off a cliff, sinking into the ocean, being swallowed by a whale, …)
Another possibility is that the song continuously reemerges from a sonically diverse range of sound sources.
We should not just hear the music. It is essential to build sonic environments with atmosphere and other incidental sounds that are part of that place.
Movement is a vital aspect of Film/Video. With still images the design principle of movement is all about implied motion.
In video movement is almost always directly seen.
Movement can result from:Characters or objects in the scene moving in relation to the camera. (This is the easiest to plan and choreograph.)
The camera moving in relation to the elements in the scene. (Camera movements are much more difficult to do well and should be used sparingly by beginning/intermediate level film and video creators.)
Or a combination of both movements.
Movement can be produced using keyframe automation techniques!
I strongly encourage you to produce as much of your source material for the video as possible.Video content can be shot or generated by automating still images.
You are allowed to supplement your video with footage that has been explicitly shared for reuse (look for videos with Creative Commons licenses that specify this) or is in the “Public Domain”.
All source material must be cited/credited. (This includes material that you produce yourself.)
Your video should be approximately 1- 3 minutes longLonger is not necessarily better. Quality and technical complexity of your production are more significant and will dictate the appropriate length of your video.
Music does not need to be, and probably should not be, playing continuously throughout your video.

Don’t think of this as a typical music video in which we hear the song as the original album (or streaming music) release, with the musicians featured in the video. This is more like a short film that features the music as a character. This character is not always present in every scene, and is sometimes distant, sometimes near.
Don’t get overwhelmed trying to come up with the perfect concept or structure for this project. Ultimately it is a design exercise that allows you to explore and demonstrate editing techniques and creatively apply design principles.
There are many different creative directions that you could take this project in. Potential factors that might inspire a particular direction include:
Song/music selectionA particular song or section of music might give you a vision of a plot, characters, or just a visual style that aligns with or creatively contrasts with the sound of this music.
