Appropriate and consistent use of citations both in text and in the bibliography/works cited page is crucial, although i do not care whether you use mla or apa format so long as it is consistently and correctly used.

For this paper, the question is, “What conception of law and/or government best serves the needs of contemporary American society?” The paper needs to show a thorough understanding of the arguments of each reading assessed, including the perceived strengths and weaknesses of those arguments, while ultimately making as clear and well-reasoned an argument as you can for why one of the approaches we have discussed.
I am looking for strong thesis statements that are then consistent with the rest of the paper, strong organization, particularly in the first paragraph and an execution that follows the roadmap set out in it, concrete illustrations showing understanding of the material without a resort to unnecessary quotes, candid assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of the different sources and acknowledgment/rebuttal of alternative views. Appropriate and consistent use of citations both in text and in the bibliography/works cited page is crucial, although I do not care whether you use MLA or APA format so long as it is consistently and correctly used. Good command of writing mechanics – things like language, voice, sentence and paragraph structure, strong and smooth transitions, spelling and appropriate use of punctuation will be evaluated too, but are of secondary importance to the strength and clarity of the essay as a whole.
