In chapter 1 you introduced your business. Chapter 2 required you to think of the different types of data you may collect and analyze. For this chapter, you will be looking at the topic of data warehousing, and how it applies in the process of doing business.
More specifically:
Think about using a data warehouse in your business. In regards to the architecture, would you be more likely to use three-tier, two-tier, or a one-tier architecture? Write a paragraph explaining your reasoning.
Which data warehouse design will work better for your business: Enterprise-Wide (EDW) or DM? Write a paragraph explaining your reasoning.
Are you more likely to buy and maintain your own data warehouse system, or use a hosted data warehouse? Explain you reasoning, including potential pros and cons of your decision.
When you have finished, save your document (It should include the pages from chapters 1 and 2.) and submit it in the BI Project Chapter 3 submission box. The document should continue using the same footer created in chapter 1.

James Dyson invented the world’s first bagless vacuum cleaner after experiencing personal frustration with his own vacuum cleaner. He showed great persistence with over 5,000 prototypes (and all of his savings!) before finding success. The Dyson vacuum has seen immense success and is often viewed as the “best of the best.” Since creation of this first vacuum cleaner, Dyson products are now in over 65 countries, and the company employs thousands of engineers across the world. First established in Malmesbury, England, Dyson headquarters are now located in Singapore.
Dyson is known for its focus on innovation. Dyson Reliability Engineer Kate Craft recently stated that constant innovation is just who Dyson is and that they are never satisfied with past successes. As such, the company has expanded into diverse markets such as air purifiers, hair care, wearables, and lighting. There have been many successes and failures along the way (such as the failed electric car project). Many have expressed surprise as Dyson has attempted expansion into these very different areas.
In Chapter 12, we discuss brand extensions, including why some fail while others succeed. Based on the chapter content, your outside research, and your own perspectives, please answer the following questions.
Questions:
1) Evaluate the quality of these brand extensions discussed above using the criteria in the chapter. Would you have advised going into all of these markets? Assume that a route exists between charlottesville and the facility that matches each different road type.

Read case #16 found in the Gibson textbook and complete all of the questions/deliverables in the assignment.
Put each group member’s name on the paper. Only one person in the group should submit the group’s response. (Multiple submissions by multiple members will result in a grading penalty.) Your submission should a single Excel .xls or .xlsx file.You may choose to also submit a doc or pdf file to detail your recommendation. If you do this, you make submit two files with no grading penalty. Make sure you submit your Excel file so the professor can see your calculations.
Case Notes:
The most difficult parts of this case are determining how to implement the adjustment factors for the different types of roads (Rural interstate, rural highway, etc.) and the assumptions you make with your map-type data. For the map-type data, determine the distance between Charlottesville, VA and each specific facility and the states along the route. Look at the driving directions and use reasonable guesstimates to determine the number of miles the truck will spend in each state. Use table(s) to perform your calculations. See my Excel screenshot below.
For the different types of roads, do all of your calculations without these adjustments and then factor in each of the different types of roads. Assume that a route exists between Charlottesville and the facility that matches each different road type. (Rural interstate, rural highway, etc.)
For example, the drive from Charlottesville, VA to Trenton, New Jersey is 256 miles. See the snips of the spreadsheet below to see how I solved for the first facility. You are not required to do it the way I’m doing it. Just explain your assumptions and your steps. Then give your recommendation(s).
