Nowadays, everyone is online, and our personal information is digitized. New technologies are also making it easier for governments to expand surveillance on basis of national security. Privacy is one of the civil liberties protected by the U.S. Constitution and civil liberties are essential to democracy. Do you think that national security outweighs the right to privacy? Do you think a reduction in the quality of civil liberties through surveillance results in a reduction in the quality of democracy?
The increased use of social media has changed the means of political participation. Especially Gen Z expresses their political opinions and engages political activities on social media via their smart phones. Some scholars argue that social media alleviates, whereas others say it intensifies polarization. What is your opinion on the relationship between the social media and polarization? We also witness the growing partisan polarization in Congress, which resulted in a more divided government throughout the last decade. Do you think that Congress is a reflection of our polarized society, or do the Members of the Congress influence the public opinion and reinforce polarization?

“this week we have focused on the perfectibility of man via jefferson’s views for the nation.

You have to write a 250 word discussion about the Jeffersonian Democracy. I will also provide more material after. This is the discussion posted:
“This week we have focused on the perfectibility of man via Jefferson’s views for the nation. In many ways, they are a stark contrast to the strict constitutionalism he began his presidency with and with what we saw in our last unit concerning the definition of the nation. Think back to the Northwest Ordinance–it’s peculiar that land for schools must be allotted and the desire to be self-sufficient–and compare that to how the nation grew with the Louisiana Purchase. At the same time, the south saw itself booming with cotton from developments like the Cotton Gin.
Hence, use your material from this week and focus on two aspects of this era that you find the most compelling. Tell us why they are so important, what is so meaningful about them, and why they still matter (as we all know, analysis and context always matter). ”

Writing style: informal (so no intro/conclusion), but complete sentences and paragraphs

Learning Goal: I’m working on a american studies report and need a sample publish to help me learn.
Find newspaper coverage of three different murders that took place in the United States before 1980—these can either be from the same time and place, or a variety. Write a brief description of each murder, analyze the tone of the coverage, and speculate about what this case could tell us about American society in the place and time of the murder.
Turn in 2 pages, double-spaced, that complete the above for three murders, and then conclude which case seems most promising for the term paper. For that case, include three questions you will need to do additional research on, in order to have a more complete picture of what happened and how society functioned like in that time and place. Finally, explain if you think this case is the one you’ll want to work on, or if you’d still like to dig around in the archives. If you don’t want to work on one of these cases, what are you looking for?
Writing style: informal (so no intro/conclusion), but complete sentences and paragraphs
Formatting: Times New Roman, size 12, 1” margins on all sides
Citations: not required for this paper (we will work on citations next week)
