Learning Goal: I’m working on a advertising question and need a sample publish to help me learn.
Research and share the links to FOUR professional online platforms that you admire. They can be images, articles, or video links. The examples can include the brand’s entire integrated campaign. Recall that online can still refer to a physical event or object if it has Internet and/or social media capabilities. ALSO NOTE: Marketing buzzwords like “platform” are interpreted many different ways. For now, let’s define “platform” as an interactive device or technique that supports a brand promise.
Reverse engineer a one- to two-sentence generic platform description from each shared link. Remember that a strong platform must involve an idea big enough to inspire a commercial, a banner ad, or even an app. Here are some examples:
Ikea: Give away products to people who tag themselves in an image of the product on Facebook.
Omo Soap: Hand out free food on plates made of china, and then collect the used plates to prove how many you can wash with one bottle of soap.
@Sweden: Give your country’s Twitter account to one person a day.
Quicksilver, Dynamite Surfing: Turn a small lake into a surf destination.
Come up with two new ideas for every reverse engineered platform idea for your chosen brand (eight total ideas). For example, Titleist could turn their Twitter account over to a new pro golfer every month, or they could give their Twitter account over to up-and-coming high school golf teams instead!
I’ve attached an example from my classmate.
